It is important to note that many of the summaries on this site are just drafts that were not initially intended to be shared. It is a work in progress made by amateur researchers with lots of passion.
The purpose of this site is to ensure that correct information is made available in relation to Eastern Metis research, to stop the perpetuation of incorrect/made up "Metis" ancestors by the internet/online trees.
Sang mêlé
In no way it means that “Sang-mêlé” existed only in those communities. Yet they correspond to “cluster” where "Sang-mêlé” established and remained through the years and where we seen them being mentioned in many historical documents. Research showed us that “Sang-mêlé” kept it to themselves through time, so they correspond to “historical communities”. They are also places, where they remained in the memories of the elders. As for the Baie-des-Chaleurs, even Mi’gmaq elders still have memories of them. This site is about sharing research, not coming up with a definite description of the identity and territory of the east coast “Sang-mêlé”. It represents our understanding of the actual situation drawn out of our oral histories and the research we have made. A perception that remains flexible to new possible discoveries.
